What to Expect at Your First OB Appointment

On your first visit, you will see our Health Educator who will obtain a detailed medical history, draw blood for your prenatal screening tests, and provide you with information on diet, exercise, medications, and additional testing during pregnancy. You can access most of this information online.

You will also see our insurance department at your initial visit. We are pleased to offer claims filing as a service to our obstetric patients. The insurance department will need your complete insurance information prior to this appointment. This includes name and address of insurance company, policy holder’s name, date of birth, employer and social security number, as well as your insurer’s phone number to verify benefits.

If you do not have insurance coverage for maternity, we require your delivery payment in full at your first visit. Payment for lab work, ultrasounds and other prenatal testing is due at time of service.

We have provided a list of tests and procedures that you may have during your pregnancy. Not all of these tests are done for every patient; therefore, they are not included in our global fee. Also, you will find a schedule of frequency of your visits for a normal, uncomplicated pregnancy.

Plan to be at our office at least one hour for your first appointment. Please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your appointment time. If you are late, we will have to reschedule your Health Educator and physician appointments. If you have any questions prior to your visit, or if you are unable to keep your appointment, please call our office at 336-273-2835 between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm.

Frequency of Visits
Your visits will be monthly up 28 weeks and then every two weeks up to 35-36 weeks. After which, your visits to our office will be weekly. During each of your visits you will rotate through and meet all of our doctors, but you will see your primary doctor at all of your major visits.

Prenatal Vitamins
If you are not already on prenatal vitamins, the lab will provide you with samples to try. You may want to try all of them and see which one works best for you. When you come in for your first appointment with our Health Educator, you can get a prescription. If you run out of prenatal vitamins, you may call 336-273-2835 and leave a message for the nurse.
